This story took place around 1900, when only the bravest dared face the hostilities of that wilderness.

Five companions went surfing one of the cold mountain lakes of Santa Cruz. They had already been traveling through unknown territory, and who could know what lay ahead in those places full of myths and legends.

Towards evening a strong wind rose (for those who do not know, a strong wind over there usually exceeds 100 km/h) and with the fragile makeshift raft they had improvised it didn´t seem very wise to venture out on the raging lake. With the adrenaline running through their veins, and the constant thought, almost like a whisper in the neck, that one of those freezing waves would swallow them, they managed to bring the raft to the rocky coast. They decided to camp on the shores of the lake and wait for the wind to change.

The next morning with daylight, each was amazed at the face of his companions, dirty, and exposed from weeks of sun, wind and cold (especially wind and cold). When they saw that the storm continued they went along the coast. On the second day of hiking on foot they came across a section they would have to climb rocks at the foot of a mountain.

One of the travelers who was walking quickly reached ahead of the rest; an unwise choice. When he finished climbing a big rock he found a very large, thin and hungry lioness. You could see that it had scented him from afar because it was crouched and ready to pounce on him. Stunned by what he saw and the next moment of what he had heard about the puma: it never attacks man if it isn´t threatened. So with his eyes fixed on the lioness he stayed still. Slowly, with his eyes on the puma, he slid his hand down to his gun. Because of the cold in his hands or the shock he didn´t reach it. As a reflex he lowered his gaze to the gun and then the animal jumped and threw the man to the ground. In this fierce battle the huge force of the beast left the man on his back. In desperation he clasped his legs to the body and his arms around its neck, trying to avoid his bites.

At that moment one of his companions came running because he had heard the sound of "the battle". The hind legs tore his belly and the front were driven into his shoulder blades and he tried to bite his nose, it´s most sensitive part. That´s when his partner saved his life with a shotgun blast in the ear of the beast, taking care it didn´t enter its final convulsions hugging the man, which would have finished him off.

The gladiator could barely rise with the help of his teammate. Shattered and on the verge of fainting he had the looks of whom his life has been forgiven. He was known in his neighborhood for his adventures, the puma skin hanging in his living room and those horrible scars that would haunt him all his life.
